Discover The Facts About Acne Causes

For a great deal of time now acne has been the bane of both sexes during their teenage years, and, a topic not readily discussed. Folk who suffer with acne have been remorselessly teased and tormented, plus shockingly christened with nicknames such as zit face. Only those who have sadly suffered from acne can empathize how cruel and hurtful such name throwing can prove to be. What Actually Is Acne?

Acne is the name of an inflammatory skin disease often presenting itself in teenagers. Acne reveals itself by the production of excess oil from sebaceous glands in the hair follicles which commonly become blocked. Acne can alter the processes in the follicles and pores in the skin of the face, back and arms as well as the chest. those follicles and pores which have become blocked are medically termed comedo.

The comedone are those the plugs which block the pores which is a mixture of sebum and keratin. A comedo is referred to as being closed or open. An open comedo is commonly referred to as a ‘blackhead’, whereas the closed comedo is what most people call a ‘whitehead’.

Once a comedone has formed it is usually followed by the most highly visible and unpleasant symptom of acne – spots. First the comedone becomes infected and with this comes inflammation and redness in the skin, which then leads to an outbreak of zits. The spots commonly become filled with pus and the skin surrounding the pimple looks very red and is sore to the touch.

There are two types of bacteria responsible for the infectiona and inflammation in acne, these are called Staphylococcus epidermidis and Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis. As well as being responsible for the formation of pus filled pimples, acne abcesses and cysts can occur.

The Causes of Acne

Amazingly our Scientists have made incredible moves forward in the comprehension of the processes involved in the formation of, and the management of, acne. Upsetingly there has not been many advances in the knowledge of why acne develops. Today, it is generally accepted thatvarious things, for example stress, hormone levels and diet can all act as acne triggers.

The are a huge number of scientist researching genetic aspects of acne. In the long term we will all benefit from this ongoing interest in acne as it should continue to provide more effective acne treatments.
